William Smith Monroe (September 13, 1911 — September 9, 1996) was an American musician who helped develop the style of music known as bluegrass, which takes its name from his band, the “Blue Grass Boys,” named for Monroe’s home state of Kentucky. Monroe’s performing career spanned 60 years as a singer, instrumentalist, composer and bandleader. He is often referred to as The Father of Bluegrass. Monroe was born on his family’s farm near Rosine, Kentucky, the youngest of eight children of James Buchanan “Buck” Monroe and Malissa Vandiver Monroe. Malissa and her brother, Pendleton “Pen” Vandiver, were both musically inclined, and Monroe and his siblings grew up playing and singing music in the home. Because his older brothers Birch and Charlie had already laid claim to the fiddle and guitar, respectively, young Bill was left with the smaller and less desirable mandolin during family picking sessions. Monroe later recalled that his brothers insisted that he remove four of the eight strings from the instrument so that he would not play too loudly. Monroe’s mother died when he was ten years old, followed by his father six years later. Because his siblings had moved away from Rosine, Monroe lived for about two years with his uncle Pen Vandiver, often accompanying him when Vandiver played the fiddle at local dances. This experience later inspired one of Monroe’s most famous compositions, “Uncle Pen,” recorded in 1950; on a 1972 album, Bill Monroe’s Uncle Pen, Monroe recorded a …

Lyrics : I’m not a perfect person There’s many things I wish I didn’t do But I continue learning I never meant to do those things to you And so I have to say before I go That I just want you to know I’ve found a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new and the reason is you I’m sorry that I hurt you It’s something I must live with everyday And all the pain I put you through I wish that I could take it all away And be the one who catches all your tears Thats why i need you to hear I’ve found a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new and the reason is you I’m not a perfect person I never meant to do those things to you And so I have to say before I go That I just want you to know I’ve found a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new and the reason is you I’ve found a reason to show A side of me you didn’t know A reason for all that I do And the reason is you

Taxes Are Up Despite Rising Number of Foreclosed and Bankruptcy Homes
Article by Scott Zahid
Some areas of West Virginia are faced with increases in property taxes despite continuous declines in property values due to high levels of foreclosed and bankruptcy homes. In Kanawha County, residents were informed that their taxes will be going up. Homeowners reportedly questioned the decision, arguing that taxes should not be increased when values of homes have declined.
Foreclosure numbers in the state, including foreclosed homes in Beckley WV, might not be as high as in other U.S. states, but the region still felt the impact of the housing market crisis, particularly in the values of their homes. The announcement in Kanawha has prompted complaints from homeowners who have seen their homes lose value over the past three years or so. In addition, housing unit sales in most of the state’s markets have also declined, causing further depression in the real estate sector.
According to realtors, foreclosures in West Virginia have not only depressed prices, but have also discouraged buy and sell transactions. In Greenbrier County, for example, realtors reported that around 1,300 properties were sold for at least ,000 in 2005, but the number has dropped to 610 in 2010 in the same price range.
Realtors stated that the lack of activity and the huge supplies of foreclosed and bankruptcy homes have weighed down the prices of properties in the state. This, some residents have argued, should be enough reason not to raise property taxes. They asserted that since tax assessments are based on the appraised value of properties, if the value is down, so should the taxes.
Some market observers have explained that, in most cases, tax assessors are a year or so behind in their assessment of property values. This means that the impact of foreclosures listings on values of homes in the region today might not be reflected on property taxes until a year or two later. They also stated that values of houses are not based merely on the property itself, but also on neighboring homes.
The recent announcement of property tax increases had residents in Kanawha questioning the validity of the method of assessing property taxes in the region. They asserted that because of the huge number of foreclosed and bankruptcy homes in the community, taxes should be going down instead of up.

Phoenix Suns: Facts You Probably Don’t Know
Article by Kevin Michaels
Do you rise up every morning thinking about the Phoenix Suns? OK, maybe you stretch and yawn first. But hardcore fans of the Arizona professional basketball team eat, drink, and fall sleep with the Phoenix Suns on their minds. Even if you put the “fan” in fanatic, here are some interesting facts that you might not know about:
1. The Suns’ expansion team fee was million USD
The team became Phoenix’s first (major) professional sports squad, during the 1968-1969 NBA season. Johnny “Red” Kerr was the first coach of the Phoenix Suns, and earned the “Coach of the Year” award during the 1968-1969 season. Meanwhile, Dick Van Arsdale was the first player that the Suns chose. Interestingly, many critics of the new expansion team’s location argued that the region’s basketball market wasn’t big enough for a professional basketball team. They were wrong. Over four decades later, the team is still a marketable NBA squad.
2. Alvan Adams is the franchise leader in Steals (1,289)
Adams was the 4th overall pick during the 1975 draft. He won the NBA “Rookie of the Year Award” in 1976, and amazingly led the Suns to the 1976 NBA Finals. Adams played every year of his NBA career with the Phoenix Suns, and retired during the 1988 season. Here are some other holders of Phoenix Suns franchise records:
Games Played: Alvan Adams (988)
Points: Walter Davis (15,666)
Rebounds: Alvan Adams (6,937)
Blocks: Larry Nance (940)
Assists: Kevin Johnson (6,518)
Personal Fouls Alvan Adams (3,214)
3. Paul Westphal made the All-NBA First Team three times
He shares the franchise record with Steve Nash and Jason Kidd. Westphal received the accolade in 1997, 1979, and 1980. He played for the Suns from 1975-1980, and then from 1983-1984. Westphal had a major influence in helping the team get to the 1976 NBA Finals, in which he made several memorable plays. In particular, Game 5 was unforgettable, and one that many basketball gurus consider to be the greatest game in the history of basketball.
4. Steve Nash has the Suns record for most NBA MVPs (2)
Nash won the award in 2005 and 2006. Charles Barkley also won the award in 1993.
5. The Suns have made the playoffs 29 times.
Although the team hasn’t won any NBA championships (yet), they’ve played in the finals twice: 1976 and 1993. More recently, the Suns took a 2-0 lead in the championship series against the Houston Rockets. However, they eventually lost the series in a heartbreaking 4-3 outcome.
Fewer of today’s fans are probably familiar with the 1975-1976 Finals, which the Suns also played in. The Suns finished the regular season with a 42-40 record. After defeating the Golden State Warriors 4-3 in the Western Conference Championship, they lost 4-2 in the Finals, to the Boston Celtics.
6. The debut of the Phoenix Suns’ mascot was 1980.
Interestingly, this was over a decade after the founding of the team. The year 1980 was the first year that “The Gorilla” (affectionately known as “Go”) appeared at Suns’ games. Today, the mascot has arguably become a benchmark in the world of professional teams’ mascots.
